What is a Tola weight of Gold?

We often speak of Gold as weighed in either Troy Ounces (t/oz) or in grams but in South Asian countries, particularly India and Pakistan, Gold is often purchased and traded in Tola weights.

A Tola unit of weight is also known as Tolah or Tole, and will vary in weight dependant upon the country of origin, as follows:

• 1 India Tola is 11.66g or 3/8ths of a t/oz (0.375 t/oz)
• 1 Pakistan Tola is 12.5g or 11/25 of a t/oz (0.44 t/oz)
