The Krugerrand Gold Bullion Coin was first minted by the South African Mint in 1967, although imports of this fine coin were banned in many Western countries until the 1990s because of the association with the 'apartheid' Government during this period.

Unlike many other Bullion coins, The Krugerrand has no nominal face value. Each coin is minted to a fineness of 917 parts per thousand, or 22 carat Gold, and is alloyed with copper, giving it a distinctive orange gleam.

There are four available weights: 33.93 grams, 16.96g, 8.48g and 3.93g which means that each coin contains 1 troy ounce (t/oz), 0.50 t/oz, 0.25 t/oz and 0.10 t/oz of fine Gold content respectively.

The coin is struck with a likeness of Paul Kruger on the obverse and depicts a Springbok on the reverse.
